What Pinterest's Growth Reveals About Digital Marketing's Future

May 09, 20258 min read

Pinterest just hit 570 million monthly active users. Let that sink in for a moment. While Facebook and Instagram have dominated coach marketing strategies for years, something significant is happening that most coaches are completely missing.

I think we're seeing a major shift in the market here. The old traditional platforms are giving way, and I think a lot of that has to do with how they've treated people with censorship and blocking posts, especially from a point of view of alternative thinking. Pinterest could be a real alternative for people who want to express themselves freely.

And I honestly think if coaches ignore Pinterest as a platform, they're gonna lose track and lose ground to a lot of other people. We have to be everywhere without burning out. What we're seeing now is a shift that requires people to also be on Pinterest. We have to use that as one of our main platforms, or we will be left behind. Most businesses haven't fully understood this yet.

The Overlooked Giant in Visual Marketing

First, I think it's important to realize that traditionally, people have been active primarily on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. That's where most people have been sharing content and their ideas. A lot of people have overlooked Pinterest, me included, until a few years ago when I realized the extremely high potential in that platform.

An easy fix would be to suddenly realize that we have a new platform that we have to do something with. A lot of people are already using scheduling services to post to different platforms. What needs to happen is we need to add Pinterest to that list. Otherwise, I think we're gonna fall behind, and our coaches will fall behind if they don't do that.

In regards to free thinking and looking at things differently, we know for a fact that Facebook and Meta generally have been hiding posts that haven't been part of the main narrative, especially in areas where there have been different thoughts on different aspects. What people have shared that wasn't typically what was said in the news or on other platforms has been pushed aside and even censored, I wanna say.

I hope we're seeing a shift now with Pinterest where this is not the case. I'm not exactly familiar with Pinterest's rules around this, but I'm hoping that what we're seeing is a different way to explore areas of thought and ways to express ourselves that is different from what has been the case.

Consumer Behavior is Changing Fast

I think what we're seeing is a shift in consumer behavior and a need for a different type of content. Me being a bit more of a traditionalist who likes to read books, blogs, and posts, I can still see we're shifting to a new type of audience that wants easy access to information. We've seen that with TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. What we're seeing with Pinterest is a similar approach with static images, which is Pinterest's bread and butter.

The type of content that can work well here depends on niches, but sharing day-to-day situations where people have breakthroughs or showing a lifestyle created based on what we do in our professions will definitely inspire people. Some niches will struggle with this because they're not particularly visual, which is gonna be the challenge. Understanding and defining how your niche can stand out in this visual landscape is key.

Sure, you have the ability to write text alongside Pinterest images, but this will be the main challenge for people. Adding Pinterest as a platform is fairly easy, but finding a new type of content is gonna be challenging for many.

Educational Content is Your Secret Weapon

This is gonna be the entire challenge for a lot of people, especially in the coaching space. What I would suggest and what I think would work fairly well is a lot of educational content. If you put educational content on a platform like Pinterest that is also search optimized where people can search for it, that's gonna be a fantastic way to showcase your skills and expertise while also showcasing lifestyle and breakthrough moments.

I think a combination of approaches works best. My perspective on almost everything is let's provide value to people, teach, help, and support others. Pinterest can be a wonderful addition to this, letting us do it visually where people can see, feel, and get help.

When talking about content mix, I would say around fifty percent should be educational or supporting to clients. Around thirty percent should be inspiring and creating a connection with people. The rest can be a mix of promotion or other content you want to share that might not fall into the three main categories.

Creating Visual Content Even in Non-Visual Niches

What comes to mind as an easy way to create visual content is something like "Seven Foods You Should Eat to Be Healthy" with pictures of these different foods, creating seven different posts. If you're in exercise or personal training, take pictures in the gym or wherever you train. If you're in life coaching or mental training, create pictures of good ideas.

List posts like "Seven Superfoods" or "Three Ideas to Change Your Mindset" are valuable and very easy to make into pictures. Use free software like Canva to help create content without burning out.

When we talk about high volume, I think we should back up a step. What I meant by high volume is you can take one post and post it to multiple different lists in Pinterest. That's the volume part. If you manage to get one post out per day, you can do that in twenty minutes, maybe half an hour.

Think about what you're good at and use your expertise. If you're a life coach, you're proficient at that. Sit down for half an hour a day and create a piece of educational, promotional, or lifestyle content with a picture and short text. Everyone can find time for that.

We don't have to overwhelm ourselves or become influencers everywhere online. We can simply put information out there because people are struggling, and we can help them. Look at content creation as microlearning and micro helping. Put things out there that people benefit from so they don't have to suffer.

The Transformation Mindset Changes Everything

I think it comes down to looking at yourself in the mirror and thinking about what you actually offer people. What are you bringing to the table? A lot of people I talk to think they are selling a service, but in reality, they are offering transformations. They just haven't realized that yet.

When we realize we're helping people change their lives instead of selling a coaching package, that does something to people. It creates an idea and sparks a new type of thinking around transformation. When you have that epiphany that you're not just helping someone lose weight but actually letting them play with their kids again because they can run or jump on the trampoline, the content becomes easier to create.

All of a sudden, you realize it's about transformation. You can talk about that transformation, show examples, show before and after. Even if you don't have before and after pictures of whatever you're doing, you can talk about it. If someone is stuck and wants to go somewhere else, we can talk about that and visually explain it.

Having that visual aspect is important because many people are visual learners. Others learn by reading, and others want to consume video. Adding the visual part is important, and using that transformation, especially in Pinterest, is gonna be key.

Take Action Now Before the Opportunity Passes

As with everything, I think it's about action. We have to take some type of action. Even if you've never used Pinterest before, what you're seeing in front of you is a shift in the digital landscape. Not doing anything, just looking at it without taking action, is gonna be a problem.

If you have no idea what Pinterest is, go look at it. Go understand it. If you're already on Pinterest, it's time to step up your game and realize this is gonna be a very valuable channel for you. The sooner you enter the Pinterest platform, the better it's gonna be because competition on that platform is just gonna increase, just as you see on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Your posts aren't getting seen on those platforms because there are millions and millions of people there. Pinterest has over 570 million users, but what we're seeing now is an opportunity to get into a less saturated market and actually stand out. That I think is the most important action coaches can take right now.

The digital marketing landscape is shifting, and Pinterest's growth to 570 million users signals a golden opportunity for coaches who act quickly. Don't get left behind while others capitalize on this visual platform's potential to showcase transformations and provide educational value. The window won't stay open forever.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT EARNINGS DISCLOSURE AND OTHER NOTICES:

Absolutely NOTHING on this web page should be considered as any type of earnings claim (implied or otherwise). I can't predict the future so I can't tell you what a "typical" result would be.

What I do know is the vast and overwhelming majority of people who take classes about growing businesses and increasing their sales don't get any results at all.
Kind of like the way most people who buy home exercise equipment don't look like the people in the commercials. (I'm guilty on that front myself.)

Also, this is a PROGRAM intended to help BUSINESS OWNERS learn how to use the Internet to get more customers. It is NOT a "business opportunity".

This will require WORK, COMMITMENT, and most importantly, PERSEVERANCE.

All this "internet marketing" stuff is harder than it looks. So get ready to put in the work and stick it out.

If you're not committed, I'd advise you to pass on this.
